Welcome to Kenmore South State School

"Developing young minds for understanding and success"

Kenmore South State School is located in the western suburbs of Brisbane, approximately 15km from the CBD. The school was established in 1967 and is situated in a delightful 4.5 hectare bush setting.

Kenmore South community is about providing a positive, safe, challenging and supportive environment for all students. In seeking to achieve this, we encourage open and effective communication among teaching staff, students and parents. We constantly seek to enhance these productive partnerships in order to achieve the best possible education for your child.

As partners in education, we look forward to working with you during your child's learning and hope that the story of your child's life at Kenmore South State School is a tale of excitement, adventure and joyous success.

An Independent Public School

In 2014 Kenmore South State School was successful in its application to become an Independent Public School.

What does it mean to be an Independent Public School?

The Independent Public Schools initiative recognises the best decision-making often occurs at a local level through direct response to local community needs and aspirations.

By becoming an Independent Public School, Queensland principals, teachers, parents and local communities have greater control and ownership of their schools.

The Independent Public School initiative will provide opportunities for:

  • enhanced local governance
  • advancing innovation
  • locally-tailored workforce
  • financial flexibility
  • building for the future
  • public accountability, transparency and performance.

What will it mean for students?

Independent Public Schools will have greater freedom to shape their own strategic direction and make decisions which will directly benefit their students.
They will have the ability to work directly with local businesses, industry and community organisations.

This new way of working could lead to unique and innovative partnerships and sponsorships, providing extra support for students, schools and the local community.

Schools also have greater flexibility to tailor the curriculum to directly suit the needs of their students.
