At Kenmore South, teachers work together regularly to ensure they have a strong understanding of the Australian Curriculum including learning areas, general capabilities and cross-curriculum priorities. Every term, they come together for a full day to review their unit plans, assessment tasks, and ways to support students learning, in a model of continued improvement.
Teachers also work together to make sure they are assessing students in the right way and at the right time. They do this by looking closely at student progress and adjusting their year level plans to ensure the best outcomes for our students.
The school has a clear plan that shows which learning areas and subjects are taught throughout the year. Classroom teachers are responsible for teaching English, Maths, HASS (History, Geography, Economics, Civics) and Science (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Earth and Space), while specialist teachers provide lessons in Health and Physical Education (HPE), Technology, Japanese (for Years 5 and 6), and the Arts, which includes Dance, Drama, Visual Arts, Media Arts, and Music.

Assessment
At Kenmore South State School, assessments are carefully planned to ensure they are of high quality and help students show their learning in meaningful ways.
When designing assessments, teachers make sure to include a clear task sheet and marking guide that explains what the assessment is for, how it is to be completed, and the expectations for students.
The assessments give students the chance to show how well they understand the content, use their skills in research and problem-solving, and demonstrate their ability to communicate or perform tasks. This is done by using a five-point scale to show the level of achievement.

Teachers also make sure the assessments are organised throughout the year in a developmental way, giving students a chance to demonstrate a range of skills and knowledge that reflect appropriate learning goals for their year level. The assessments are designed to varying degrees of challenge and provide opportunities for students to show their best work.
Reporting
At Kenmore South State School, the process of reporting student achievement to parents is clear and easy to understand. Semesterly academic reports provide information on:
- The overall level of achievement awarded for each learning area based on a five-point scale, with the 'C' standard representing the appropriate level of achievement for each year level
- How well their child is engaging with the learning
- Ways their child can improve
Teachers use assessments from the student's semester portfolio to determine an overall level of achievement at the end of each reporting period. This judgment is based on the expectations set by the Australian Curriculum and the department's Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework.
