Welcome back to school for 2017. I hope that you all had a restful and enjoyable Christmas holidays.
Our school has been buzzing with excitement as our students have settled back into school. This week we celebrated our school’s 50th Birthday. Our school opened on the 23rd of January, 1967. This year will be a year of celebrations for our school; it is an exciting time to be a part of our school community.
At Kenmore South we are very proud of our school and the great work that occurs in our classrooms on a daily basis. We have a team of many who work tirelessly to ensure that our students have the very best of opportunities to learn, to be supported and work to achieve their full potential. It has been wonderful to wander around the school and in our classrooms and see how quickly the students have settled into their routines. Congratulations to our staff who have been so prepared and welcoming to our students and their families.
As partners in your child’s education, I would encourage you to take the time to meet with your child’s teacher and to regularly chat to them regarding your child’s progress. This may occur through emails, informal conversations or by appointment. Our teachers are available to meet with parents and I would encourage parents to make an appointment with your teacher via their email. This way they can arrange a time that suits. Each morning our teachers are busily preparing for the day and providing our students with the opportunity to be organised and ready for their day. We know that this is a great time for our teachers to get to know the children in an informal way and guide them to be organised and independent. Thank you to teachers who are really engaging with the culture of our school community and building a rapport with your students and families.
Each week you should receive an email from your child’s teacher outlining what will be happening in the classroom and any special events that will occur for that class. If you do not have an email address please let your child’s teacher know so that a hard copy of the email can be provided. As we work together, we can encourage the children to develop a love for learning and enjoy their time at primary school.
Our classes have been set to start the school year and we anticipate that they will be the same for the school year however, Education Queensland has a specific day, Day Eight which will be Thursday 2nd February. On this day students are accounted for and this determines the school staffing for 2017. After this date, if we are required to make any changes to our staffing, our Administrative team will contact affected families. If you have any questions regarding this process, please contact our office.
I am looking forwarding to working with you and your families throughout 2017; I know that this will be a magnificent year.
